A unique example that is as described as “off the beaten path of European gunsmithy.” Published 16th Century Wheelock pistol with Dramatic Steel furniture and elaborate engraved lock from the collection of Frank Givens Jr. and illustrated and described in detail in his published collection in 1960 at page 29 place 9, number 591. The published cover and noted pages are pictured below. The features are noted in part: “the hand-wrought iron parts constitute a most artistic ensemble-the butt being chiseled and pierced in the form of a pagoda.” Also “in fact the whole ensemble of mounts attests to the artistry of Portuguese metal-workers.”
