Very interesting and ornate early 18thcentury Spanish Miquelet pistol. This mechanism slightly predated flintlock and operated in the very same manner. The most distinctive difference is the the flintlock mechanism is partially inside the lock while the miquelet is entirely visible on the outside. This example is made distinctive by the fact that it features a high relief lion head butt plate.7 in part rectangular and part r9ound barrel with the makers mark deeply incised on the top.
